YOOF TALKS THE TINGS DEM

            YOOF TALKS THE TINGS DEM

2012 is looking already to be a positive and busy year for me, Last year was an excellent year having released my King Yoof’s international Hi-Fi E.P. on Jay Cunning’s Sub slayer’s label which fused all my favourite sounds into one massive cooking pot from Reggae/Jungle + Dubstep.
I didn’t think it would connect as well or sell as well as I thought it would do as it was a very new sound (very different from the music I had made before under my Sonz of mecha guise) but was blown away by the amount of response and support it gained, Was even more blown away by the sales statements especially in these economically challenging times and to find out you had the biggest release on that label. So all gravy baby!!!!

GIVE ME A DUBPLATE AND LET ME MASH DEM DOWN!
(KING YOOF'S WARRIOR SOUND E.P OUT SOON ON SUB SLAYERS)

Fuck me 2012 is already here and I haven’t stopped in the studio applying finishing touches to my next release (Warrior) for Sub Slayer’s which feature’s vocals from Jah Mirikle.

You can hear a clip of it here.

I discovered Jah Mirikle when i had found a video that was doing the rounds on facebook which featured Rodney P,Heartless crew and Jah. His vocals blew me away and so i got him to do a full vocal performance on my latest release. The tune hails back to the golden age of reggae but brought up to date with Jah Mirikle blessing us with his sweet positive vocals.

Heres the video to his collaboration with Rodney P and Heartless crew

I was thinking at first of it being just a single but now ive decided it to be an E.P. as I have remixes from Alex Gold, dubstep’s new kids on the block Hellfire Machina and also dance music legends Shut up and Dance.

The E.p. Will also feature my new dancefloor smash “Every night is a soundclash” which is on the same vibe as Back 2 Hackney or Murderer. Blap blap!
Already support from Jay Cunning, Pyramid, Gold, Shut up and Dance, Billy Bunter,Jacky Murda, Dreadzone, Aries.

You can hear a clip of it here

While im on the topic of new tunes I had a go at remixing one of my all time fav Jungle tunes from back in the day “SCOTTIE” by Subnation.
Found the original samples from the Evil dead the movie and 10 hours later came up with this lil remix

You can hear a clip of it here

I wanted to keep the original vibe of the track and make it more up to date, Already gaining support from Dj’s such as Billy Bunter, Jay Cunning, Pyramid, Vinyl Junkie, Uncle dugs, and various others… this will be a give away on the new Sub Slayers website.

Got a few Collabs under the belt already and have been busy in the studio with Vinyl Junkie, Dj Gold and Pyramid… more news on that in the next blog update.

REGGAE, REGGAE AND MORE REGGAE AND I LOVE IT

Woke up New Years day to find out David Rodigan received a MBE from the Queen, which was a great excuse to carry on the new years celebrations!
I think it freaks people out especially fellow artists that my main love is Reggae music and when im at home its all you will pretty much hear.
My love of it has stemmed way back to when I was a youngster in the 80’s and fortunate enough to have been around Sound system culture growing up in Lewisham S.E. London home of sounds such as Saxon, going to Reggae Sun Splash at Crystal Palace seeing artists such as Dennis Brown, Sugar Minot, King Yellow man etc.

When you have been around the music and culture its hard not love it, even later on when I found other music such as early rave and Jungle that I was drawn by the reggae influences especially the baselines.

Here’s a true fact for you… Without Reggae and early sound system culture you would not have Hip-Hop or any forms of dance music. In fact no dance music period!

Selectors like Rodigan who started out with a small Record outlet in Lewisham have played a big influence in my life and when you see them receive awards such as the MBE it’s a proud moment for everyone that has loved Reggae music.

One of the things that got me making Reggae influenced music is the preservation of the sound and educating people especially the younger generation that all the music you listen to whether its Dubstep/Jungle/Drum and Bas etc comes from Sound system Culture…REGGAE MUSIC!

YOU KEEP PLAYING THAT BLOODY JUNGLE MUSIC ALL NIGHT!!!

It’s a beautiful thing hearing your tunes played all over the radio, just being in your car and switching your radio on and bopping to your latest tunes is a buzz even when you get to my age lol and it seems the Pirates are all over this new Jungle sound!
From Billy Bunters Kool fm Music Mondays show 12-3pm too Uncle Dugs run come Fridays lunch time show on Rinse fm + during the mid week you can catch Tamsin on Kool fm (Thursdays)  + Shut up and dance on Origin fm (Wednesday nights).
Big up all the Dj's/Pirate radios for supporting the sound.
Also stay tuned as Sub Slayers head cappo Jay Cunning and myself will be starting a brand new 2 hour radio show very soon... station details and times will be announced very soon.
